wish I'd asked for help sooner

  • Hi everyone,

I thought I'd share my experience in case it helps someone who's wondering whether what they're feeling is "just part of getting older."

Looking back, my symptoms started gradually. At first, I put everything down to stress and a busy life. Then came the hot flushes, night sweats, broken sleep, aching joints, anxiety and brain fog. I just didn't feel like myself anymore.

For a long time I convinced myself I should just get on with it. I tried all sorts of supplements and lifestyle changes, and while some helped a little, nothing really got to the root of the problem.

Eventually I spoke to my GP and we discussed HRT. I was nervous because of all the conflicting information I'd heard, but after weighing up the pros and cons I decided to give it a try.

It wasn't an overnight miracle, but over the following weeks I started sleeping better, my anxiety eased, and I gradually felt like me again. I hadn't realised just how much menopause had been affecting every part of my life until I started to feel better.

I know HRT isn't the right choice for everyone, and everyone's experience is different, but I do wish I'd asked for help sooner instead of struggling in silence.

I'd love to hear other people's stories too. What symptom caught you most by surprise, and what has helped you the most during your menopause journey?
